Lone Worker

Lone Worker
A feature of some Two-Way Radios where at certain preset time intervals, the radio user is notified to press a button on the radio in order to inform a control centre that they are OK. If they does not acknowledge the periodic notifiaction by pressing the button after another defined time period, the radio sends out an alarm message. The purpose of this feature is to protect a person working on their own, so that if someone was to become ill or incapacitated their radio would send out an alarm message that can be picked up by the control centre or security office, who can then send help
A built in timer which will alert the device user that they need to confirm that they are ok. Failure to acknowledge the alert for whatever reason will then mean their device goes into emergency mode alerting other specified device users of the emergency.
Lone worker timers can range from a couple of minutes through to a couple of hours it will depend on what is practical for your business requirements.
A “typical” lone worker configuration may be;
Lone Worker Timer – 30 mins
Pre-alert Timer – 1 mins
User X after 29 minutes of in-activity will start receiving an alert tone for up to 1 min, this means they have one minute to confirm that they are ok – if they press to confirm they are ok then the timer will re-set, if they don’t press to acknowledge they are ok after the minute is up then their device will go into alarm mode.
Depending on the lone worker device whether it is a two way radio or specific lone worker fob will depend on the escalation process – see below for more details.

Man Down

Man Down
A feature of some Two-Way Radios, has the inclusion of a tilt-switch. This can be programmed to automatically send an alarm signal if the radio is tipped on its side for more than a preset period. The radio usually beeps to warn the user that the alarm signal will be sent if the radio is not positioned upright again. The purpose of the “man down” feature is to protect lone workers, so that if someone was to fall, become ill, or be attacked, resulting in them falling down, their radio would send out an alarm signal that is picked up by someone in a control centre or security office, who can then send help.
The man down pre-alert timer can be specified by you, for example;
If user X has their man down device with them but puts it down on the table then you can set the pre-alert to sound for up to a minute so they have the opportunity to position their device upright again before it goes into emergency mode.
Depending on the man down device whether it is a two way radio or specific man down fob will depend on the escalation process – see below for more details.
